Mannar District Scouting in New Communities – Unit Leader Training Programs

The Sri Lanka Scout Association organized the Singithi (Malalai) scout phase 1 course during the weekend of March 25 and 26, 2023, at the Sithivinayagar Hindu College in Mannar. The course aimed to introduce scouting to new communities and provide training for unit leaders.

A total of 41 teachers participated in the course, which was led by Mr. Ajith Kumar LT and Mr. Raveenthiran LT, with the support of Mr. Varatharaja ADC Training. Mrs. Renuka Silva LT ACC, Mr. S. Amalaraj AHQC, and SNC Coordinator for Mannar, and Mrs. Ambiga Gunasekera LT were also present at the course.

The Singithi (Malalai) scout phase 1 course was designed to introduce the basics of scouting to the participants and equip them with the necessary skills to start scout units in their communities. The course covered various topics, including the scouting movement, scout law, scout promise, and scout methods.

The District Commissioner, Mr. Stanley de Mel, and the Assistant District Commissioners were present at the course, showing their support for the training program. They emphasized the importance of scouting in promoting the development of young people and encouraged the teachers to take an active role in promoting scouting in their communities.

The Singithi (Malalai) scout phase 1 course is part of a larger effort by the Sri Lanka Scout Association to expand scouting to new communities and provide training for unit leaders. The Association believes that scouting has the power to transform the lives of young people, and they are committed to promoting scouting throughout the country.
