HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT RANIL WICKREMASINGHE INVESTED AS CHIEF SCOUT OF SRI LANKA

President Ranil Wickremasinghe was invested as the Chief Scout of Sri Lanka at a special ceremony held today 21 November 2022 at the Presidential Secretariat as provided in the Sri Lanka Scout Council Act no.13 of 1957. His Excellency also becomes the Patron of the Sri Lanka Scout Association. In all Scout Organisations in the world, the head of state becomes the Chief Scout.

His Excellency was received by Mr.Ransiri Perera, Chairman of the Committee of the Scout Council.

Deputy Chief Commissioner Mr. M F S. Muheed delivered the Welcome Address and stated it’s a historic occasion to invest His Excellency as the Chief Scout of Sri Lanka and requested his fullest
support for the Scout Movement and requested the Chief Scout Commissioner Attorney at Law Mr. Janaprith Fernando to invest His Excellency the President as the Chief Scout of Sri Lanka.

The Scout promise was renewed and Chief Commissioner invested His Excellency as the Chief Scout by presenting the Scout Scarf and thereafter presented a report of scout activities.

Mr. Janaprith Fernando in his address gave an account of the activities done during the recent past with regard to SDGs and helping the needy with food through the Community Kitchen Project and several activities dealing with the current situation
He requested support to increase the scout population to 108,000 by 2023.

His Excellency the President in his address stated that he would expect the scout population to Increase to 200,000 by 2024 and will give his fullest support through the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Youth Affairs.

President requested SLSA to be fully involved in the 75th Independence Celebrations of Sri Lanka and to support the team appointed to tackle Global warning issues, to which the Chief Commissioner responded positively informing those present on the steps already taken by SLSA by planting 125,000 trees and focus on SDGs. The Chief Commissioner was very thankful to H.E the President for his re-assuring support and for inviting the scouts to take an active part in the Independence celebrations.
Chief Commissioner presented a memento to His Excellency the President and Chief Scout.
All Senior Scout Commissioners participated at the ceremony.
