745 SCOUTS RECEIVE PRESIDENT’S SCOUT AWARDS

745 scouts received their President’s Scout Awards at a colourful ceremony on Friday 2 June 2023 under the distinguished patronage of Hon. Lakshman Yapa Abeyawardena, Govenor of North Western Province at the Provincial Council Auditorium in Kurunegala.

Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Senior Advisor to H. E. the President of Sri Lanka graced the occasion and presented the Message of the Chief Scout His Excellency the President. President’s Scouts from almost all the scout Districts had gained this Prestigious Award.

Chief Scout Commissioner Attorney at Law Mr. Janaprith Fernando delivered the Welcome Address and outlined the activities carried by Sri Lanka Scout Association and announced the achievement of 100,000 members, Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Senior advisor to H. E. the President delivered the Message of the president and requested to achieve the target expected by the Chief Scout. He also recalled the days he was a scout.

Hon. Lakshan Yapa Abeywardena, Governor of North Western Province in his address spoke about the importance of co-curricular activities for all students and that studying won’t be enough. He further said he would support the development of scouting and maintain the high standards of coexistence with all communities. Mementoes were presented to the distinguished dignitaries by the Chief Commissioner. International friendship awards were presented to three individuals who have assisted Sri Lanka Scouting.

Mr. Malcolm Tan, Leader Trainer of Singapore Scout Association.
Dr. Juko Mursitho, Leader Trainer of Gerakan Pramuka Indonesia.

Mr. Srilath de Silva Asst. Chief Commissioner and Organizing Commissioner delivered the Vote of Thanks.

President of Sri Lanka Scout Association Mr. Srinath Gooneratne, Deputy Chief Commissioner Mr. M F. S. Muheed, Senior Commissioners,Headquarters Commissioners, Special Commissioners, Assistant Hq Commissioners, District Commissioners, Chief Secretary of NWP, provincial Director of Education, chairman of Kurunegala District Scout Association and other officials of Kurunegala were present. Dr. Kosala Amunugama, District Commissioner of Kurunegala and his officials coordinated the event.
