National Better World Team of Sri Lanka Scouts Joined in hands with Negombo Scouts for the 1 st ever Better World Tent in Sri Lankan Scout History
Over 1000 Cubs, Scouts and Rovers from Negombo District, Sri Lanka had a novel experience at the Better World Tent during the 1st Negombo Scout Seaborrette held from 6-9 March 2020 in Negombo, Sri Lanka.
This was the 1st ever Better World Tent in Sri Lankan Scout History, which was an all-in-one dynamic place showcasing World Scouting’s programmes, services and initiatives, provided a space to discover how Scouts are creating positive change around the world with local projects and international networks. This was implemented as a concept of District Commissioner of Negombo District, Lakshan Perera in line with the 1st ever Seaborrette in Sri Lanka.
The tent showcased Messenger of Peace, Scout of the World Award, World Scout Environment Program, Scouts for SGDs, He For She, Diversity and Inclusion and many more initiatives and calls to action inspired Scout groups/units to align the community service element of their Scout projects with the SDGs and education for sustainable development.
An average of 350 Cubs, Scouts and Rovers engaged in module activities specially designed to give overall knowledge on Better World Framework on daily basis and inspired to contribute every day to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through community service.
Scouts who completed all stations, were given certificates of appreciation and scouting promotional materials. Mr. Janaprith Fernando Deputy Chief Commissioner of SLSA and Member World Scout Committee visited the Better world Tent and emphasized the importance of bringing the initiatives to all levels in scouting to make a positive change around the country with community engagement and active citizenship.
