In response to the emergency, the SLSA mobilized its national and district-level resources to assist affected families and Scouts across the country. This effort was supported by generous financial and material contributions from the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), the Maldives Scout Association, Past S. Thomas’ Prep School Scouts, Past Mahajana College Scouts, as well as numerous individuals and well-wishers.
SLSA carried out several relief projects including the distribution of school books to 1,400 Scouts (amounting to Rs. 3 million), shoes to 1,000 Scouts (amounting to Rs. 2.6 million), and financial assistance to 21 Scout Leaders for repairing damaged homes and restoring electricity (amounting to Rs. 1.7 million). Immediately after the cyclone, over 15,000 families were provided with essential items such as dry rations, cleaning materials, sanitary napkins, clothing, and blankets, while Scouts, together with VTEC students under the guidance of the Vocational Training Authority, supported the repair of household electricity connections, mobile phones, and three-wheelers. The estimated value of dry rations collected by Scouts from their neighbourhoods exceeds Rs. 35 million.
These ongoing relief efforts are being carried out under the guidance of Chief Commissioner Attorney-at-Law Mr. Janaprith Fernando, with the joint efforts of the National Headquarters and District Scout Associations. In carrying out this task, SLSA mobilized the Scout Leaders in districts who had undergone training by the Disaster Management Centre and worked closely with their officers during the period.
SLSA remains committed to serving communities in times of need and will continue these relief and rehabilitation initiatives to ensure sustainable recovery for those affected.
