Dr. Asanka Eriyawa has been appointed as the National Program Commissioner to the vacancy arising by the period of the National Program Commissioner Mr. Sarath Mataraarachchi coming to an end.
Dr. Asanka Eriyawa embarked on his Scouting journey in 1993 as a Cub Scout and was honored with the Gold Star. Progressing through the ranks, he continued his dedication to Scouting as a Junior Scout and Senior Scout, ultimately achieving the prestigious President Scout Award at the age of 16 in 2002 from the Maliyadeva Scout Group,Kurunegala.
In 2004, he joined the 3rd Kurunegala, Maliyadeva Scout Group as an Assistant Scout Leader. Over the years, he served diligently in various roles including Scout Leader, District Rover Leader, and Assistant District Commissioner. Notably, he was the proud Scout Leader of over 50 President’s Scouts and approximately 40 Baden Powell Awardees in the Rover Section.
Transitioning to the National Scout Headquarters in 2017, he initially served as an Assistant Headquarters Commissioner before being promoted to the position of Headquarters Commissioner in 2020.
Currently, Asanka extends his service internationally, contributing as a member of the APR Educational Methods Sub-Committee (2022-2025), APR Messengers of Peace Core Team (2022-2025), and as a WOSM Volunteer for World Events (2021-2024).
His contributions have been recognized with the APR Good Service Award in 2021 and the APR Special Recognition Award for Messengers of Peace in 2022.
He participated in numerous World Scout Jamborees and APR events, serving in various capacities as both a staff member and participant. He received the Wood Badge award for the Scout Section in 2009 and for the Rover Section in 2017. Currently, he serves as a Leader Trainer.
