Sri Lanka Scouts Care

The Sri Lanka Scout Association launched the Sri Lanka Scouts Care, Covid 19 Pandemic Relief Project for 500 scouts and families in 10 scout districts. The project is to provide dry rations, food items and medicines for needy families of scouts and leaders due to the lockdown situation in the country.

The project was funded by the World Organisation of the Scout Movement by the ‘Scouts Emergency Response Fund to Covid 19’. A donation of USD 10,000/- was received and the entire sum has been spent on purchasing the food and other items and all local expenditure including transport was borne by local scout commissioners personally. 10 scout districts who applied to benefit from this project were given 50 relief packs each and the Sri Lanka Scout Association is thankful to many manufacturers for supplying the goods direct at short notice.

The project was officially launched at Sri Lanka Scout Headquarters premises by the Chief Commissioner Major General Milinda Peiris and Deputy Chief Commissioner and World Scout Committee member Janaprith Fernando in the presence of a gathering of District Commissioners, representatives and Rover Scouts and Leaders of Colombo District and other Districts. The relief packs were dispatched to Kankasanturai, Jaffna, Trincomalee, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Avissawella, Negombo, Wattala-JaEla, Homagama and Kalutara Scout districts. The districts and the deserving recipients were selected by a special committee of commissioners and the Project Team Leader is Kapila Kumara Headquarters Commissioner and the rest of the team consist of Prabath Kularatna, M F S Muheed, Dr Manjula Sahabandu and Dr Asanka Eriyawa. The District Commissioners who accepted the relief packs are making arrangements to hand them over to the selected scouts and families. The Sri Lanka Scout Association is grateful to WOSM and the Asia Pacific Regional Support Centre for the support given to this project.
