well organized celebration took place in Mannar District to celebrate the historical occasion of 110 years of Scouting in Sri Lanka.
The Celebration started off with a walk commencing from the Kachcheri premises led
by two school bands followed by Scouts carrying the National and other Scout flags followed by a mobile float with a model campsite.
The Chief Guests Mrs. Stanley De Mel, Government agent and Mr. M. F. S. Muheed, Deputy Chief Scout Commissioner along with Guests of Honour and Special Guests walked followed by
Scouts from the school scout groups marching with banners depicting the SDGs and Anti drug slogans with the walk extending to more than a kilometre length in hustle and bustle of the city centre to attract everyone’s attention.
The walk ended at the Public Stadium and the event was started with the hoisting of national and scout flags and school flags.
The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Stanley De Mel the District Scout Commissioner.
The Chief Guest Mrs. Stanley De Mel, Government Agent in her address stressed on the importance of scouting at a time when we are facing the drug menace.
Mr. M. F. S. Muheed Deputy Chief Scout Commissioner in his address explained the main purpose of the scout movement having functioned for more than a century is proof of it’s acceptance by the society.
Mr. S. Amalaraj Asst. Headquarters Scout Commissioner and coordinator for scouting in new communities project detailed out the project of increasing 1000 scouts in 6 months in the district.
110 Anniversary cake was cut by the Chief Guests. 26 scouts also were presented the DC cord and the two President Scouts were recognized with special mementos. Poster Competition took place thereafter and ended with a grand camp fire.
A model camp site was also established. Mr. Anoj Kumar ADC was in charge of the program coordinated by Mr. S. Amalaraj AHQC.
