Mr. Janaprith Fernondo
Chief Commissioner
Sri Lanka Scouts
Dear Brother Janaprith,
On behalf of The Bharat Scouts and Guides, and in my personal capacity, I wish to convey our deep concern and heartfelt solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka and the entire Scouting fraternity in the wake of the devastating Cyclone Ditwah and the ongoing economic recovery challenges faced by your nation.
We are deeply saddened to learn about the tragic loss of lives, large-scale displacement, and extensive damage caused by the cyclone. The suffering endured by over 1.5 million affected people, especially those seeking refuge in relief centres, touches us profoundly. At this moment of great difficulty—when humanitarian needs for clean water, food, shelter, and medical support are urgent—our thoughts and prayers are with every family and community affected.
We also recognise the immense strain this disaster places on Sri Lanka’s continued economic recovery efforts following the 2022 crisis. The resilience and determination of your nation during these difficult years have been admirable, and we commend the ongoing commitment to rebuilding under extremely challenging circumstances.
Brother Janaprith, please know that the Bharat Scouts and Guides stand firmly with Sri Lanka Scouts during this critical time. The spirit of Scouting is built on service, compassion, and solidarity. We deeply appreciate the efforts of Sri Lanka Scouts who, even amidst hardship, continue to serve their communities with courage and dedication.
If there is any way in which we can extend support—morally, technically, or through collaboration—please feel free to reach out. We remain ready to assist within our capacities as part of the global Scouting family.
May Sri Lanka find strength, healing, and unity as it overcomes these challenges.
We stand with you today and always.
With warm regards and fraternal solidarity,
Dr. K. K. Khandelwal
Chief National Commissioner
The Bharat Scouts and Guides
New Delhi, India
