Sri Lanka Scout Association Sees Significant Membership Growth over 93,000

The Sri Lanka Scout Association (SLSA) has announced a significant increase in its membership in the year 2023, thanks to its ongoing efforts to engage more young people in its programs under the visionary leadership of Chief Commissioner, Mr. Janaprith Fernando.

According to the SLSA, the number of registered scouts in the country has increased over 93,000 in 1st Quarter of 2023. This growth is attributed to the SLSA’s innovative initiatives aimed at attracting more youth to scouting, particularly in rural and underprivileged areas.

Speaking on this encouraging development, Mr. Janaprith Fernando, the Chief Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout Association, said, “We are thrilled to see more young people joining scouting and embracing its values of leadership, community service, and personal growth. Our goal is to make scouting accessible to all youth in Sri Lanka, and we are working hard to achieve that.”

One of the SLSA’s key strategies for membership growth has been to establish new scout groups in underserved areas, where there was previously little or no scouting presence. These efforts have been supported by the SLSA’s dedicated team of adult volunteers, who have been trained to deliver high-quality scouting programs to youth from diverse backgrounds.
