The 23rd Annual General Meeting of The Sri Lanka Queen’s and President’s Scout Guild was held on Sunday 10th March 2024 at the National Scout Headquarters with a large gathering of members.
The event started off by welcoming the Chief Guest Major General Thilak Ubhayawardene and Guest of Honour Mr. M F. S. Muheed, Deputy Chief Commissioner by presenting the guild scarves.
The formal Religious Observances, Moment of silence in memory of those members who have passed away was followed by the National Anthem and Renewal of the Scout Promise.
Deshamanya Deshabandu Capt GPK Withanage JP (WI), President of the Guild delivered the welcome Address and referred to some important events carried out during the year. He further said that for the first time female members have joined the Guild.
The presentation of the Annual Report for 2023-2024 took place by Mr. S. Amalaraj, Hony. Secretary. The report was comprehensive highlighting the several events being organized for members and an increase of over 100 members joining the Guild.
The Guest of Honour Mr. M F. S Muheed, Deputy Chief Commissioner representing the Chief Commissioner Mr. Janaprith Fernando said this is a very talented organization of members who have achieved the highest Awards as a scout. He appealed to the members to become scout leaders and run scout troops to increase the membership growth of scouts in Sri Lanka.
Chief Guest Major Gen. Thilak Ubhayawardene in his address said he too had been a scout for a short time and spoke on the values of scouting for young people to enhance them in their future careers.
Mementoes were presented to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour to mark the occasion.
The Ceremonial Session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Secretary Mr. S. Amalaraj
Vice President Mr.K.D.J. Christopher, Treasurer Mr. Tony Fernando and other officials and committee members were among the gathering.
