10TH NATIONAL SCOUT JAMBOREE RE-UNION HELD SUCCESSFULLY IN TRINCOMALEE

A Re-Union of the 10th National Scout Jamboree 2024 was held successfully on Saturday 11th May 2024 at the Jubilee Hall in Trincomalee. The event was to appreciate and thank all Government, Local Government, and other non- governmental organisations and the Tri Forces and Police who came forward in a big way to support and provide the necessary facilities to conduct the Jamboree successfully.
The event commenced with the lighting of the traditional Oil Lamp and Religious Observances.
The Welcome Address was delivered by the Joint Organizing Commissioner Col. Padmalal Perera who welcome the Distinguished Invitees and members of the Organizing Teams.
The Chief Commissioner Mr. Janaprith Fernando (Attorney-at-Law) addressed the gathering and gave a glimpse of the Jamboree events that took place and thanked everyone who supported to have a successful Jamboree with 11,500 scouts and officials locally and 500 from overseas. He stated that the Chief Scout and President of Sri Lanka His Excellency Ranil Wickremasinghe, gave his fullest support by requesting all state institutions to support the Jamboree.
Special mementoes of Appreciation were presented by the Chief Commissioner to the distinguished invitees who were present representing the various organisations.
Mr. L. Ilangovan – Chief Secretary Northern Province, Mr. Chaminda Hettiaratchi – Government Agent Trincomalee, Mr. V. Rajasekar – Secretary of UC Trincomalee, Mr. Jayaratne – Coordinating Secretary to Chief Secretary of Eastern Province, Rear Admiral Anil Bowatte – Director General Administration of Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage – Commandant of Naval and Maritime Academy, Air Commodore Tushara Weeraratne – Commandant Air Force Academy, Group Captain Chandana Ratnayake, Squadron Leader Prageeth Weerasekera were among the distinguished invitees. Principals of Schools, representatives of the Police, Water Board, Electricity Board and Health authorities were also present.
The Deputy Chief Commissioner Mr. M.F.S. Muheed in his address on Past Jamboree experiences said he has been involved in every Jamboree since 1983 and gave the reasons for conducting successful Jamborees specially providing the infrastructure facilities being the most important for camping.
Mementoes were also presented to all members of the Organizing Teams.
The opportunity was also taken to felicitate Mr. Sarath Mataraarachchi who had completed his period as National Program Commissioner among various other positions he has held in the past. He was also the Joint Organizing Commissioner of the 10th National Jamboree.
In his reply stated that he is available as a life member and as a member of the Training Team for any services.
Mr. Nanda Corea who had served as Special Commissioner and the Jamboree Treasurer was also felicitated on completion of his period.
The President’s scouts of Shunmuga Hindu Ladies College presented two colourful dances to delight the invitees. The District Scout Commissioner of Trincomalee Mr. S. Sasikumar and his team presented the Shawl – “Ponnadai” to the Chief Commissioner and the Organizing Commissioners to thank them for hosting the Jamboree in Trincomalee.
Dr. Anil Perera, Jamboree Secretary and Headquarters Commissioner delivered the Vote of Thanks and thanked all organisations and their representatives for the unstinted support provided for the Jamboree.
The evening continued with entertainment and all present had an enjoyable time.
