The Safe from Harm (SfH) Policy of the Sri Lanka Scout Association was launched on 31st December 2020 relayed as a live stream on Facebook under the patronage of the Chief Commissioner Major General Milinda Peiris.
Chairman, National Committee on SfH, Dr. Rajeeva Peiris (also the International Commissioner) in his welcome address, said it has taken several months of hard work to produce this policy document together with 2 other authoritative documents. He explained the purpose of the Policy and said that the policy is built on 3 relationships and 8 situations. He gave a detailed description of how they were able to prepare the policy. He said the policy covers all areas of child / youth safety and it makes the Sri Lanka Scout Association a Child safe organization.
The Committee appointed by the Chief Commissioner comprised of Dr. Rajeeva Peiris – (International Commissioner) Chairman, Mr. Rohan Wirasekera – (Former Program Commissioner), Dr. Manjula Sahabandu (Assistant Chief Commissioner) and Dr. Asanka Eriyawa (Asst. HQ Commissioner) who is the convenor of the National Committee.
Dr. Rajeeva Peiris presented the Safe from Harm 202 Policy Document to the Chief Commissioner marking the official launch.
Chief Commissioner Major Gen. Milinda Peiris in his address commended the work done by the SfH National Committee in producing a very good Policy Document which will be useful to scouts, leaders, commissioners and lay members.
Deputy Chief Commissioner and World Scout Committee Member, Mr. Janaprith Fernando in his address, said that this policy and related documents are
is the best in the Asia Pacific Region and thanked the Committee for such a wonderful job.
Dr. Asanka Eriyawa Asst. HQ Commissioner gave the historical background of safeguarding children in the world as well as the history of Safe from Harm within the Scout movement. Dr.Manjula Sahabandu – Asst. Chief Commissioner in his address gave a summary of the overall plan of Policy implementation in Sri Lanka.
The event was conducted live on Zoom and broadcast as a live stream on Facebook. Many Scout officials from NHQ and Districts participated on Facebook.
