The Reunion of the 1st ever historical Global Cultural scout Jamboree and the Farewell Ceremony to Major General Milinda Peiris Immediate Past Chief Scout Commissioner was held on Sunday 12th December 2021 at the Grand Ball Room of Hilton Hotel.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Major Gen. Milinda Peiris, Immediate Past Chief Scout Commissioner. Prof. Kapila C Perera, Secretary to Ministry of Education was the Guest of Honour. They were received by the Chief Commissioner Mr. Janaprith Fernando and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Global Cultural Jamboree Mr. Prabath Kularatne, Asst. Chief Commissioner.
Mr. M. F. S. Muheed Special Scout Commissioner delivering the Welcome Address welcomed the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, the distinguished invitees from Sponsors and Partner Organisations who supported the Jamboree , Scout Commissioners of National Headquarters, Districts and Scout Leaders. In his address he said that Cultural Jamboree was a historical event organized by the Sri Lanka Scout Association for the first time and over 23,000 scouts from 100 National Scout Organisations participated. He referred to the yeoman services rendered by Major General Milinda Peiris during a period of 1 year and 9 months.
Mr. Janaprith Fernando, Chief Commissioner in his address referred to the successful completion of the Jamboree which was held virtually from 16 – 18 July 2021 without facing any problems of connectivity.
He further said that it was the young Rovers and scout leaders who worked hard for it’s success. Referring to the the period of Major General Milinda Peiris as Chief Commissioner he said the Scout Association was raised to high standards with a new vision and guidance with new activities introduced and requested his support for the future. Referring to the Guest of Honour Prof. Kapila Perera thanked him for the support he has given to scouting by approving our requests on various issues faced as Secretary of Education Ministry. Prof. Kapila Perera said that all scout officials he met was passionate about scouting and he as a scout will always support to develop Scouting. He made a request to link the proficiency badges with the NVQ qualifications to enable scouts to advance in their respective skills.
The Chief Guest Major Gen. Milinda Peiris detailed out the activities carried out during his period to give a new look and raise the standards of scouts. He commended the young Rover Scouts and Young Scout leaders for their capacity to organize events successfully and stressed on the need for young people to be brought to the fore. He further thanked the Commissioners and scout leaders for the support he received during his tenure as Chief Commissioner.
A Memento was presented by the Chief Commissioner Mr. Janaprith Fernando on behalf the SLSA to Major Gen. Milinda Peiris. Token of Appreciation was presented to Prof. Kapila Perera. Dr. Asanka Eriyawa Secretary of the Global Cultural Jamboree and his team coordinated the event. Letters of Thanks were presented to the Jamboree organizing Team.
