Earth Hour 002

17 Districts of Sri Lanka Scout Association Connected Digitally to emphasize importance of protecting nature

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held annually encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on a specific day towards the end of March, as a symbol of commitment to the planet.

The World Organization of Scout Movement, according to the partnership signed with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), joined with Earth hour this year as well on 28 March 2020 from 2030 hours to 2130 hours. The main objective of the event was to raise awareness for energy consumption and effects on the environment and this was be symbolically represented by switching off the lights.

This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sri Lanka Scout Association together with WWF celebrated Earth Hour- 2020 digitally by organizing a district level video story competition , “RAIZE YOUR VOICE FOR NATURE CHALLENGE”

This project was organized as a part of “Save Nation – Save Lives” Public awareness campaign for the prevention of COVID-19.

17 Districts have successfully took part in the event by uploading 25 videos to give message to the world emphasizing the importance of protecting nature.
