Cub Scouting for Everyone Messengers of Peace project approved by Asia Pacific Region of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement was launched this morning (12 December 2020) at the Kotalawala Defence University and on Zoom under the patronage of the Chief Commissioner, Major Gen. Milinda Peiris.
The main objective of the project is to increase the membership of the Cub Scouts to 30,000 from the present 22,000. This includes the the training of of Cub scout leaders and enhancing the quality of Cub Scouts and leaders. Mrs. Wathsala Wijewickrema – Asst. Chief Commissioner Cubs who is in charge of the project as the Project Leader presented the project details. She requested the support of everyone to achieve the project target. The Chief Commissioner Major Gen. Milinda Peiris in his address said that this is a good project to increase the scout population by the Cubs after completing their period will join the scout troop. Despite the Covid- 19 Pandemic we should be able to go ahead adapting to the new normal situation. Mr. Janaprith Fernando – Deputy Chief Commissioner and World Scout Committee Member in his address listed out many details with regard to cub Scouting and elaborated on the need for quality and quantity of the scouts. He thanked the APR for the confidence placed on us by giving this project apart from other MOP projects given to us earlier. Mr. Prasanna Shrivastava Director from APR addressed on Zoom from India said that Sri Lanka is quite capable of achieving the target. Ms. Rohini Wijeyaratne – Project Secretary proposed the Vote of thanks. Commissioners of national Headquarters, District Commissioners, Asst. District Commissioners (Cubs) participated via zoom.
