The National Scout Activity Centre which has been renovated to Interntional Standards by the Sri Lanka Navy was taken over by the Sri Lanka Scout Association this morning (13-03-2021) in the presence of officials and Commissioners and other special invitees. The ceremony commenced with hoisting of flags followed by Religious Observances. Mr. Merrille Goonetilleke President of the Sri Lanka Scout Council delivered the Welcome Address and explained the initiatives taken during his period as Chief Commissioner for the renovation of the Pedro Camp and expressed his appreciation to all those officials who were actively involved in the renovation of the Centre which has been a great task. The Chief Commissioner Major Gen. Milinda Peiris referred to the historical back ground of the Training Centre since the time of Brigadier C.P. Jayawardena.
The Chief Guest Mr. Chandana Lal Karunaratne, Mayor of Nuwara Eliya congratulated and appreciated the work done by the Scout Movement to produce useful citizens and expressed his great support. The keys of the Centre were handed over by the Sri Lanka Navy official to the President of Sri Lanka Scout Council, Chief Commissioner, Deputy Chief Commissioner and Chairman of the Committee of the zcouncil. The Chief Commissioner thereafter handed over the keys to the National Training Commissioner Mr. Nanda Fernando who is the Chief Custodian of the Training Centre. The Training Commissioner Mr. Nanda Fernando proposed the Vote of Thanks and expressed his appreciation and thanks to all those involved from the time the repairs commenced to it’s completion. The Taking Over Ceremony was organized by the National Training Commissioner Mr Nanda Fernando with members of the Training Team.
