Mr Janaprith Fernando, Candidate for the World Scout Committee 2017-2020

Janaprith Fernando is the First Sri Lankan to be elected to the APR Committee in 2012.

In the 105 year history of SLSA no member has served in the World Scout Committee and we are now presenting our best choice, Mr. Janaprith Fernando. He is the current lead of the Global Support Core Group, through the knowledge and experience from this group he has raised the standards of transparency, accountability, good governance, youth empowerment and equality for all.

His expertise and leadership has raised the standards of Scouting in Sri Lanka by heading and promoting overseas Jamborees across the globe. He was Deputy Contingent Leader for WSJ Holland in 1995, CMT WSJ UK 2007 and Contingent Leader WSJ Sweden 2011. His promotion of overseas Jamborees as International Commissioner has brought immense exposure to our urban and rural scouts and leaders.

The benchmark of scouting connected with world scouting and its policies has been raised to very high standards by him. His knowledge as a Senior Lawyer and an active practitioner running his own Law Chamber has ensured the correct amendments to the NSO’s constitution have been made.

Apart from his law practice he served in several Corporate Boards of Directors including Hilton Colombo, RDB Bank and is an Advisor to several Government Ministries, Institutions and private sector institutions acting also in the capacity of Company Secretary. His expertise and professionalism led the way for the new building for the NSO and financially strengthening the NSO by partnering with a globally recognised developer. His contacts and cordial relationships with external organisations paved the way for SLSA to raise its public image and visibility.

Janaprith Fernando’s commitment to scouting both nationally and globally has won the hearts and minds of so many as a charismatic, committed, honest, dedicated, hardworking, forthright individual who always encourages team work and committed towards youth empowerment and involvement of females in decision making in scouting. During the period 2009-2012 as Chairman of the Management Sub-committee of APR, several Concept papers and standards were introduced & published. His contribution as a member of the WOSM Human Rights Task Force (2009-12) was significant and the Global Support Core Group of WOSM has been able to achieve all its goals in this Triennium under his Chairmanship.

We are convinced that Janaprith Fernando with his maturity and experience, if given the opportunity to serve in the World Scout Committee could make a significant contribution towards achieving WOSM’s mission for 2023.

Therefore we humbly appeal to your NSO to please consider casting your votes among others to Sri Lanka’s candidate Janaprith Fernando who undoubtedly will help in Creating a Better World.
